The mission of Dress for Success is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
Our vision is a Greater Montréal where women are financially independent. They are treated with respect, are self-confident and have a positive approach to life. They strengthen their families and shape their communities.
WHAT WE DO
With help from its volunteers, Dress for Success Montréal provides women who are ready to enter the workforce with professional attire and a network of support to help them achieve their goals. In tangible terms, it is a team that accompanies women throughout their journey, from the moment they secure a job interview all the way to achieving professional success. When they are referred to Dress for Success Montréal, not only do our clients work with a stylist to select their professional outfit, but they also receive coaching and advice as they prepare for their interview. As they take their first steps into the workplace, our clients will have access to a network of support, career development tools and training to help them retain their employment and thrive in their career.
Dress for Success Montréal enters the scene once a woman has secured a job interview. We act as the bridge between the organization that helped our client set up her interview and the beginning of her career by providing appropriate work attire and coaching on how to prepare for the working world. Ultimately, our services are specialized and complementary to those already offered by other organizations.
Dress for Success Montréal is managed by women who have decided to make a difference by helping other women reach their full potential.
Dress for Success Montréal is an affiliate of Dress for Success, an international organization headquartered in New York. Dress for Success is active in more than 150 cities spread over 27 countries.
DRESS FOR SUCCESS’ HERITAGE
In 1996, a young law student by the name of Nancy Lublin received a $5,000 inheritance from her great-grandfather. Wanting to honour his memory and make a difference in her community, she used this money to found Dress for Success with the goal of empowering women who had once faced personal hardships to earn their own money and rebuild their lives.
Since then, the grassroots start-up, which began with the help of three nuns from Spanish Harlem, has grown into an international not-for-profit organization that promotes the financial independence of disadvantaged women worldwide. Today, under the leadership of CEO Joi Gordon, Dress for Success serves women in more than 147 cities around the world and is uniquely positioned as a global leader in women’s employment issues.
